CONGRATULATIONS! to all the riders on Team Bike Mart for raising over $1,000,000 (another new record) for the fight against Multiple Sclerosis in the Sam's Club MS 150 Frisco to Fort Worth cycling adventure. In 2006, our team won the Team Award for being the Top Fund Raising Team and the Most Improved Team for Fund Raising. In 2007, we won the Largest Team Award with 298 riders and we were the Top Fund Raising Team, having raised $314,140. What a great year! Every day researchers are getting closer to a cure. So join our team and pedal with us in 2008 to help bring a cure closer to reality. Our goal for 2009 is to have 250+ riders on the team and raise over $300,000 for the MS Society. 2009 will also be the year we are known as Team Bike Mart, The 1st Million Dollar Team, for having raised over $1,000,000 since we started Team Bike Mart in 2002. In 2008 we were the Top Fund Raising Team, the Largest Team, and we had team members in the Top Fund Raiser category. Lest we forget, it's all about the cause. And the good time we having doing it.

We want you, your friends, your neighbors and your family on Team Bike Mart. This is such a great event raising money for such a great cause. What a great weekend - riding your bicycle in one of the best organized and supported events in the country. Even though we have a fun filled weekend, the real purpose of this event is to raise as much money as possible to aid in finding a cure for the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis (MS), the number one disabler of adults.

In 2001, Jim Hoyt had an idea about starting a team for the MS 150. At that time there were about 10-18 corporate teams that were raising some good money, but that was not good enough in Jim's eyes. Jim had been sponsoring 4-5 race teams for BMX, road, and mountain biking. The elite racing teams included a women's road team. However, Woody Smith wanted an everyday cycling enthusiast team. So Team Bike Mart.com was formed in 2001. It was inspired by Jim and Rhonda Hoyt and long time friend and road bike racer Steve Mailman. Steve was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1990. The team that had started in Steve Mailman's honor had a mission now. The goal was to raise a lot more money to fight this terrible disease.

Most of the huge corporations had the power to get lots of cyclists, but not the drive to motivate the team to raise more than the required minimum of $150 at the time. Jim with his brilliant business mind knew if we could start a team with a $300 minimum instead of the required $150, we would be able to make a larger impact. Since the MS Society already had a certain fixed cost per rider, if every rider could double their donation without raising the fixed cost, this would mean tripling the dollars for research. "This is just business 101" Jim would say.

As our involvement in the MS 150 continued to grow, so did the number of riders participating in the ride. This requires a bigger effort each year on the part of RBM and all those who support our team. Woody Smith, our General Manager who has been with RBM for over 18 years, spends countless hours doing all the work necessary to make our team one of the best teams around. He is very passionate about this ride and this enthusiasm pulls lots of people together to support a great event. In 2003, the MS 150 wanted to start a Ride Marshal program. RBM and Woody stepped up and took charge of the program. It has been a tremendous success. So successful that in 2005 Woody needed help and initiated a co-captain program with Sam Montag as his co-captain. Team Bike Mart continues to grow and be more successful year after year. In 2008, we dropped the .com from our name and are now known as Team Bike Mart. This change included building a new website for Team Bike Mart. Come. Join us and be part of this tremendous event.

Richardson Bike Mart would like to thank all the people who have volunteered their time in any way to support Team Bike Mart and the MS Society.
